Hall H visitors might need to stretch their smartphone’s data limits during San Diego Comic-Con this week.
Convention organizers told press on Tuesday there would not be free WiFi throughout the halls of the convention center. Media members covering panels and other happenings inside will have access to WiFi in the press workroom, according to an email sent to credentialed press attendees. However, reporters, bloggers, and fans shouldn’t expect access to free WiFi in Hall H, Ballroom 20, and other parts of the convention center.
Free WiFi has been spotty at best in years past and a regular source of complaints for those attending and covering the massive pop culture expo.
All isn’t lost for San Diego locals and visitors wanting to save their phone’s data and take advantage of free internet (and catch Pokémon, obviously). The city and Cox Communications struck a deal that created 100 hotspots in downtown S.D. for two-plus weeks in July, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. However, those access points will not work in the convention center.
San Diego played host to the MLB All-Star game last week, another high-traffic event ahead of the usual Comic-Con swarm.
