Whether the cast of the Divergent films will make a Dauntless-style leap when the franchise’s final installment likely moves from theaters to the small screen remains to be seen, but now another one of its stars is reacting to the news about the series’ future.

Ansel Elgort, who played Caleb Prior in the last three Divergent Series films, said he only just heard about the plans for Ascendant recently.

“It’s obviously sad because the cast all really liked each other, but hopefully we can all work together on a different project,” he told The Huffington Post during an interview to promote his new single, “Home Alone.” “I love Shailene [Woodley] and I love Theo [James] and everyone else in the cast. I’ll miss [pause] we didn’t say our goodbyes because we were expecting to do another one together.”

It was revealed earlier this week that Lionsgate is looking to forego a theatrical release for The Divergent Series: Ascendant to instead complete the saga with a TV movie, which would also lay the groundwork for a spin-off series.

Elgort added that he’s “looking forward” to seeing how they adapt the film for TV, but also noted that doesn’t know much about those plans. “I don’t really know much about it to be honest,” he said. “I just heard about it a couple days ago.”

The actor isn’t the only Divergent star to have spoken publicly about the news. Earlier this week, Shailene Woodley — who plays Tris Prior — said she was taken by surprise by the developments.

“Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened, and I landed and I’m like, ‘Whoa, what’s going on?!’” she said Wednesday while speaking about her upcoming film Snowden at Comic-Con. “I need to talk and find out what the details are.”

The Divergent films are based on Veronica Roth’s series of dystopian novels. The last of the film adaptations to hit theaters was Allegiant, which opened in March and underperformed at the box office.
