Stranger Things kids make up lyrics to the theme song

The theme song for Stranger Things features plenty of dread, mystery, and bassy ’80s synth, but no lyrics — until now.

Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp recently sat down with EW and offered some lyric suggestions for the the Netflix’s breakout series’ compelling theme song. Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, stepped up first, noting that he spontaneously creates songs “all the time.”

“Will is gone. He’s dead. J.K.; he’s not. Barb is dead — ha!” Matarazzo ad-libbed, with McLaughlin and Schnapp performing the theme song in the background. Schnapp, who plays Will, approved of the lyrics, while McLaughlin reacted in a skeptical fashion befitting his character, Lucas. McLaughlin said that the song, written by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, is perfect as is.

“I think it would take away from the show if it had lyrics,” he said.
