As anyone who’s ever written a listicle knows, compiling a top five list is harder than it seems. Stephen Colbert gave Bruce Springsteen the task on The Late Show, asking for a top five of his favorite Springsteen songs. But he did it, despite overwhelming suggestions from the audience. 

“It’s your life, Bruce. It’s your life,” Colbert said when Springsteen’s fans started shouting out titles like “Cynthia” and “Jungleland.” The host even suggested “Badlands” when his guest struggled to find a fifth. In the end, The Boss picked these five tunes. 

1. “Born to Run”

2. “The Rising”

3. “Thunder Road”

4. “Nebraska”

5. “Racing in the Street”
