Adam Driver is a poetry-loving bus driver in the Paterson trailer

Adam Driver is going from TIE fighters and star destroyers to New Jersey buses.

The Star Wars actor stars in the new trailer for Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson, a low-key and captivating portrait of a young bus driver named Paterson — who happens to work in the city of Paterson, New Jersey.

As we quickly learn from the trailer, Paterson is a man of routine, someone who spends his days driving his bus, walking his English bulldog, and having one beer at the local bar before going home to his energetic and imaginative wife, Laura (Goldshifteh Farahani). In his free time, he writes poetry in a small black notebook, keeping his words to himself despite Laura’s encouragement to share them with the world.

Paterson premiered earlier this year to rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, where Nellie, the film’s English bulldog, posthumously received the “Palm Dog” award for her star turn.

Paterson will hit theaters on Dec. 28.
