Gael Garcia Bernal is excited about a border wall — but not the one Stephen Colbert thinks

Stephen Colbert decided to examine Donald Trump’s proposal for border wall between the U.S. and Mexico on Thursday night’s The Late Show. He even introduced a Latino man named “Martin Hernandez” (Gael García Bernal), who seemed excited about building the wall.

“I love the wall. I will take any opportunity to talk about the wall,” the character said. “The wall is the simplest, most elegant solution for keeping people out of a country. Way more practical than, say, a flaming moat full of crocodiles, or trained swarms of bees to check the passports.”

Except it quickly became clear that he was actually Canadian, and the wall he was building was to keep Americans out of Canada. He was even using poutine as his mortar.

“If Trump gets elected, you Americans are gonna flee to Canada like crazy,” “Hernandez” said. “You’ll take our jobs, and steal our women. You keep your filthy American hands off Celine Dion! My heart will go on, not yours!”
