New Rogue One: A Star Wars Story poster foreshadows Thursday trailer debut

Darth Vader is literally breathing down the neck of Rebel heroine Jyn Erso in a new poster for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which foreshadows the debut of another trailer for the film Thursday morning.

The Sith Lord’s mask blends in with the shadows on the hull of the Death Star for an ominous, ghostly effect, while the reflection of what appears to be the laser-green schematics for the battle station plays across the face of Felicity Jones’ character.

Director Gareth Edwards released the poster to announce the arrival of a third, and presumably final, trailer Thursday during Good Morning America on ABC. The movie arrives in theaters on Dec. 16.

There aren’t many new clues to decode in the poster, which features the Rebel band trying to steal the Death Star construction plans from the clutches of the Empire. Below the heroes, Stormtroopers and AT-ACT’s wade through the warm surf of a tropical world known as Scarif.

Curiously, the film’s other villain — Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic, the director of the Empire’s special weapons program — is lumped in with the good guys, but facing away from them. It’s a subtle suggestion that Vader is as much a danger to him as he is to them.
