A blue-collar Brit fights the bureaucracy in I, Daniel Blake trailer

Ken Loach directed the Palme d'Or-winning drama

The first U.S. trailer has arrived for I, Daniel Blake, director Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or-winning drama about an aging British carpenter battling a heart condition and an unsympathetic bureaucracy.

A surprise winner at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the film stars Dave Johns in the title role and Hayley Squires as a young single mother of two (Briana Shann and Dylan McKiernan) who is also trying to make ends meet.

Praised by critics as a fiery, timely exploration of working-class struggles, I, Daniel Blake will enter the awards season race with a Dec. 23 release date.
