Every week, the cast and crew of FXX’s sharp, raunchy, cult comedy, You’re the Worst, is taking EW behind the scenes. For each episode, one member is recapping, sharing thoughts on what went down, and walking us through the ins-and-outs of the show. This week, Chris Geere brings us into the seventh episode of season three, “The Only Thing That Helps.”

Well hello there, my name is Chris Geere and I am from England. Today, I will be recapping episode seven of the phenomenal comedy series that is You’re the Worst on FXX.

Poor old Jimmy. He drinks so much coffee, he paces so fast around his house, he eats lard-based snacks all the time and still, he struggles to finish his erotic novel. What he really needs is another dose of life getting in the way of what he wants to do with his life!

Cue Gretchen and her newfound wisdom following the untimely arrival of Daddy’s ashes and a rando from England. These are all he doesn’t need for an impromptu, half-arsed effort at a memorial service with a side order of some very deeply rooted issues. Also in attendance are Lindsay and Paul, surprisingly close after their recent agreement to allow a third party into their marital bliss. “Raul” makes a brief appearance, as does Lindsay’s conscience in one of my favorite storylines in YTW history.

Edgar’s long winding road to contentment takes a new turn thanks to Vernon (of all people) with his “medical” vs. “real life” advice, and Worsties welcome superstar Ben Folds, who plays a very delightful, yet somewhat eccentric “new to LA” musician called Ben Folds.

Jimmy takes his father’s ashes to Tony Shalhoub’s house (obvs.) and unceremoniously kicks the urn of “chunky” dust over the gate, therefore dissolving any memory of his father’s existence.

Unfortunately for Jimmy, closure is a pretty complicated process and not one that’s going to go away anytime soon.

You’re the Worst airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FXX.
