Dozens of stars gathered in St. Paul, Minnesota on Thursday to honor the late musical icon Prince, who died in April, at a special tribute concert planned by Prince’s family.

The show, which featured friends and mentees Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Tori Kelly, Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia, Morris Day & The Time, Judith Hill, Doug E. Fresh, Liv Warfield, Nicole Scherzinger, and Jessie J, was held at Xcel Energy Center in Prince’s hometown. Though Christina Aguilera and John Mayer had been set to perform, both pulled out of the lineup.

President Barack Obama began the night with a short video message to the crowd. “Thank you, Prince, for all the great works you have done. You will be in our hearts forever.”

Wonder and Khan rocked together, singing “I Feel For You,” which Prince wrote, and “1999.” Other covers included Jessie J’s performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” Nicole Scherzinger’s rendition of Vanity 6’s “Nasty Girl,” and Judith Hill’s version of “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore.”

“We were a powerful musical trinity. Now Stevie Wonder & I hold up @prince in the Light. #Feel4HimLoveHim #princetributeconcert,” Khan wrote on Instagram after the show.

Prince’s family had announced plans for the show in July and tickets went on sale in September. “The family is extremely excited to provide an opportunity for the world to participate in the tribute for our brother Prince. This concert will be an event not to be missed,” Prince’s sister, Sharon Nelson, said in a release, when announcing the tribute concert. Added L. Londell McMillan, an old friend and advisor to the artist: “Many fans and friends all over the world wanted to have the chance to honor, memorialize and celebrate this incredible man. We’re thrilled we were able to make this happen.”
