Hairspray Live!: Get a first look at the cast

Audiences excited for the Hairspray Live! premiere have less than two months of wait left — and now there’s a sweet treat to tide them over. In the new issue of PEOPLE hitting newsstands Friday, the cast is all dressed up in a first look photo.

NBC’s production will see newcomer Maddie Baillio take on the role of Tracy Turnblad (center, in blue), while Ariana Grande fans may not recognize the pop princess on the left, bringing Penny Pingleton to life in a plaid dress and pigtails. Ephraim Sykes is to her right as Seaweed Stubbs, Tracy’s pal from detention, along with Teen Beach Movie star Garrett Clayton as Link Larkin.

Elsewhere in the photo is Kristin Chenoweth and Dove Cameron as clad-in-pink mother-daughter duo Velma and Amber von Tussle. Meanwhile, Derek Hough (right) will play Corny Collins himself, while Jennifer Hudson (back) will take on the role as Motorbouth Maybelle. Lastly, the musical sees Martin Short and Harvey Fierstein take on the roles of Tracy’s parents, Wilbur and Edna Turnblad, the latter of which was played by John Travolta in the 2007 movie. Billy Eichner, Sean Hayes, Andrea Martin, and Rosie O’Donnell also star.

The musical — which is based on the Tony Award-winning musical — is set in 1962 Baltimore and follows teenager Tracy Turnblad as she tries to make her dream of dancing on “The Corny Collins Show” come true. When it does, Tracy, who becomes a trendsetter overnight, decides to use her newfound fame to make Corny’s show inclusive of all races.

Hairspray Live! will premiere Dec. 7 on NBC.
