Captain Mal Reynolds and the rest of Firefly’s crew have been through a lot of trauma recently – first with Wash and Book’s tragic deaths in the film Serenity, and then a mix of kidnapping, childbirth, and conflict in the recent sequel comic, Serenity: Leaves on the Wind. Next week, Dark Horse releases the first issue of a new series, Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse, by writer Chris Roberson and artist Georges Jeanty. That series begins, fortunately, with what looks like a regular old cargo theft job for Mal, Zoe, and Jayne.

Mal begins the issue by remarking “luck’s on our side for a change,” which is always a bad omen for this permanently bad luck crew. Indeed, it’s not long before an Alliance ship shows up and throws a minor wrench in their plans. Of course, this job is only an prelude to the series’ main event, which picks up about a year and a half after the events of Leaves on the Wind.

“The characters have been busy in the meantime,” Roberson recently told EW. “They’re just wrapping up a job when they get a call from an old friend who is in desperate need of their help, and things get complicated pretty quickly.”

Check out a preview of Serenity: No Power in the ‘Verse #1 below. The issue is on sale Oct. 26.
