John Oliver made Donald Trump an offer on Sunday night’s Last Week Tonight: one of Oliver’s Emmys in exchange for the Republican presidential candidate accepting the results of the election on Nov. 8.
Discussing the week that was in the presidential campaign, Oliver focused on Trump’s controversial comments during the third and final presidential debate that he would keep the nation “in suspense” over the election results were he to lose.
“What do you mean, ‘You’ll keep us in suspense?’ This is a presidential election not an American Idol results show!” Oliver joked. “ ‘I’ll tell you whether or not my followers will plunge the country into anarchy after the break.’”
During that portion of the debate last week, Hillary Clinton slammed Trump for often saying systems were “rigged” against him rather than admit defeat. Clinton even cited Trump’s campaign against the Television Academy because he never won an Emmy Award for The Apprentice – a comment Trump agreed with on the debate stage.
“Of course he wants an Emmy. It’s a woman, it’s gold, and it’s proportionate to his tiny hands. It’s basically Trump’s ideal mate,” Oliver joked on Sunday. “Here’s the problem here: It increasingly seems like if Donald Trump loses, we are not going to get the concession speech that the country badly needs, because he is medically incapable of accepting that he is a loser.”

The host then explained that Trump needed to be fooled into giving a “concession speech while he’s still able to claim that he won something.”
“I think I might have the answer here, because I have a proposition for Donald Trump: Let’s bet on the outcome of this election. I will take the side that you win; you take the side that you lose,” Oliver said. “That way, if you lose, you still win. As for the stakes of the bet, I have something I know that you want.”
With that, Oliver pulled out one of his Emmy Awards and held it up as the crowd cheered. “You don’t even have to take her furniture shopping!” Oliver said, referencing Trump’s comments about Nancy O’Dell during the infamous 2005 Access Hollywood video. “Take the bet, Donald. Take the f—ing bet.”
