There may be hope for Aqua in the Fragmentary Passage.

Following in line with the previous franchise entries, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue features an opening cinematic for the new title Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage. Square Enix and the Kingdom Hearts team released the epic opening video Thursday, which features Aqua on her journey out of the realm of darkness to rescue her long-forgotten friends.

Tying in the original game, the theme song for the new entry is a remix of “Simple and Clean” called “Ray of Hope Mix” by series mainstay Utada Hikaru. As young Sora, Riku, and Kairi play on the sun-soaked sands of Destiny Islands, the clip flashes back to the events of the first Birth by Sleep, with Aqua, Terra, and Ven holding out their Wayfinders as a means of solidarity.

Shifting into the current timeline, Terra and Ven lose their charms and Aqua is thrust back into the harsh reality of her two closest friends lost to the darkness. An intense battle between the Keyblade Master and Vanitas wages, with Terranort not far behind to bring his old friend down. When all hope seems lost, King Mickey appears to bring light back into the battle, throwing Aqua deeper into a bright dream. In the final moments, a hand reaches out for Aqua’s, and, with the iconic x-shape on the glove, it’s clear that it belongs to none other than series hero, Sora.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue releases for Playstation 4 and Xbox One on Jan. 24, 2017.
