Every Gilmore Girls fan has their favorites among Stars Hollow’s delightful cast of characters, and even the show’s creators have their picks for the ones they most liked to write for.
“I liked Grocery Guy No. 2,” series creator/executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino joked Saturday during a panel at EW PopFest in Los Angeles.
But then she got serious, naming two of the best female characters on the show not named Lorelai or Rory. “They’re all great to write for,” she said. “I love me a little Emily Gilmore, I gotta say. I love me a little Paris Gellar, I gotta say.” On both name mentions, the audience cheers grew louder.
Gilmore Girls executive producer Dan Palladino also named Paris as one of his favorites. “We could have done eight hours with just Paris walking around the streets interacting,” he said. “Kirk also, it could go on forever. We love all our regular characters but when a guy like Michael Winters, who plays Taylor, he’s great too — because he’s our sort of right-wing, oblivious guy that is really, really fun to write for.
During the panel, the duo showed brand new footage from Gilmore Girls’ upcoming Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and discussed how writing for those characters again came back easily.
“This sh–‘s in our DNA now,” Sherman-Palladino said. “A lot of it was still there.”
