Lena Dunham knows how fun the people of Ohio can be and she also knows the one way to really get the party started: voting in the presidential election.
In Funny or Die’s latest Rock the Vote video, released Monday, the Girls star urges the people of Ohio, a swing state, to vote in Tuesday’s election by cheekily playing a tourism promoter.
“I’ve been all over this great country — New York, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Queens — but there’s one place I love most of all,” she says, poking fun at her New York-based projects. “It’s a little slice of heaven you’ve got nestled between Lake Erie and the mighty Ohio River. That’s right, I’m talking about… the great state of Ohio.”
Dunham goes on to tout the draws of the Buckeye State, from the high-thrill roller coasters of Cedar Point, to the prosperous production of corn and soy beans, to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, declaring that she loves “everything” about the state.
“You know what else people in Ohio like to do to have fun?” she implores. “How about voting in the upcoming presidential election? What do you think about that?”
The video was made in part with Rock the Vote, a nonprofit organization aimed at using pop culture to reach young voters and encourage them to use their voice. Dunham’s video follows Katy Perry’s September video, where she urged the country to vote… clothing optional.
