Frank has returned to town, but he certainly hasn’t been welcomed with open arms during Thursday’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder.

At the close of last week’s episode, Frank (Charlie Weber) showed up in Laurel’s (Karla Souza) apartment, eavesdropping on her call with Wes (Alfred Enoch) as she drunkenly told her new flame that she loved him.

“It’s pretty messy,” Weber tells EW. “He’s there to tell Laurel some things about how he feels about her. He’s going to have to deal with the fact that she’s with someone else and those lingering feelings that people have for each other. We’ll see how she reacts to what he says.”

Frank’s arrival in Laurel’s apartment comes after Bonnie rebuffed him, leaving Frank all but hopeless. “He feels completely alone,” Weber says. “When Bonnie threw him out, he was devastated by that. Now he’s grabbing at straws hoping that somebody will be his lifeline. He’s really reaching.”

That lifeline probably won’t be Annalise, who blames Frank for the death of her unborn baby, the first domino in a long line of misdeeds that ultimately led Annalise to put a hit out on her former protégé. “It’s ridiculously intense,” Weber says of Frank’s reunion with Annalise. “It’s been culminating the whole season and leading up to that moment when those two see each other.”

How to Get Away with Murder airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
