Holly Hunter is returning to TV to star in Alan Ball’s next HBO drama series.
The Broadcast News and The Incredibles actress will play the matriarch of a contemporary multi-racial family at the heart of the untitled series from the Six Feed Under and True Blood writer-producer.
The show is billed as “a tragicomic meditation on the complicated forces at work on us all in America today,” and focuses on “a philosophy professor, his lawyer wife, their three adopted children from Somalia, Vietnam, and Colombia, and their sole biological child. This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harboring deep rifts. Then, one of the children begins to see things others cannot. Is it mental illness? Or something else?”
Hunter’s last series regular role was TNT’s 2007 procedural drama Saving Grace, while Ball’s most recent series was executive producing Cinemax’s Banshee.
