It’s just another day at the office in the first trailer for Greg McLean and James Gunn’s The Belko Experiment — that is, with a sinister twist.
“At the end of the day, people are out for themselves,” True Detective actress Adria Arjona says in the clip, which teases a blood-soaked journey through a Bogota, Colombia-based office building, where dozens of employees are locked inside a towering high-rise and pitted against each other by nefarious forces.
Combining the best elements of films like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, The Belko Experiment follows the coworkers as they become pawns in a twisted, kill-or-be-killed game, in which they must kill three of their peers before the powers that be detonate explosive devices implanted in each of their necks.
McLean previously directed horror films like 2005’s well-received Wolf Creek (and executive-produced its upcoming television spin-off) and the Radha Mitchell-fronted crocodile thriller Rogue in 2007. The Belko Experiment, which premiered in September as part of the Toronto International Film Festival and was produced by Gunn, features a revolving door of familiar TV faces, including Arjona, Gilmore Girls’ Sean Gunn, The Walking Dead’s Michael Rooker, and Scrubs’ John C. McGinley.
“Belko is an incredibly crazy script by James Gunn,” McLean previously told EW about the project, which comes from the mind of the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker. “There’s nothing else like it. Trust me. It’s a wild, wild movie. I’m so glad I got to direct it. James was great. We have a similar sensibility over the movies we like and the references we like. So, we clicked over those things. I think he’s a great writer, but he was great fun to work with, and really respectful of me taking over the project, and directing it.”
The Belko Experiment lands in theaters on March 17. Watch the film’s first trailer above.
