Three decades ago, when Michael Douglas was gearing up to star as the straying family man Dan in Adrian Lyne’s kinky thriller Fatal Attraction, he knew the success of the movie hinged on finding the right actress to play Dan’s psychotic, bunny-boiling stalker Alex. And as the actor recently recounted in a new episode of EW Reunites, he knew from the moment he met Glenn Close that he had found the perfect partner.

The pair got back together for an episode of EW Reunites on PEN, the PEOPLE/Entertainment Weekly Network, where they wore matching black turtlenecks and revealed that the first time they ever met was during Close’s audition.

“We met at an audition, and Glenn, let’s just say, came in in character and knocked our socks off,” Douglas said.

Douglas was already on board, but Close wasn’t quite sure what to expect in her audition to play the unhinged publishing editor.

“I had flown out from New York,” she recalled. “I didn’t know what to do with my hair, and I didn’t know what to wear. I got so nervous that I took a little bit of a Valium. I walked in, and the first thing I saw was a video camera, which is terrifying. And then behind the video camera in the corner was Michael Douglas. I just said, you know, well, just let it all go wild.”

“She kicked ass,” Douglas added.
