Don Hewitt: '60 Minutes' honcho
Dec. 14, 1922-Aug. 19, 2009
All serious journalists are in his debt. He always said, ”Tell me a story.” He never said, ”Oh, it’s foreign, we aren’t interested.” That’s important right now, when you hear that Americans aren’t interested in foreign news. 60 Minutes has lasted 42 seasons, and it doesn’t speak down to viewers. He was able to parlay quality into commercial success.
Hewitt died of pancreatic cancer in Bridgehampton, N.Y.
