DNC holds film contest

Professionals may be running this week’s Democratic convention in New York, but the party’s top brass has apparently decided not to leave all its advertising to the experts. The Democratic National Committee recently ran ads in Variety, Videography, and New York’s Village Voice announcing a contest for film students and other amateurs to create 30-second TV spots about the importance of voting Democratic in November’s election.

Mukulu's future

They’re hardly your typical jingle singers, but the African a cappella group Mukulu hit the right note with Dannon Yogurt. Dannon’s rep at Grey Advertising, Richard Mendoza, received a tape of the 10-member Ugandan group and decided that its smooth harmonies went well with the company’s new fat- free ”Dannon blended.” Mukulu’s commercial for Dannon broke in the spring in the Northeast and will begin airing in other markets this fall.
