Casting Net: Ellen Page signs on for Iraq War drama Lioness

  • Ellen Page has signed on to star in independent drama Lioness, which will tell the true story of Lance Corporal Leslie Martz, a US Marine sent on a unique and emotionally challenging assignment to Afghanistan. The script was written by Rosalind Ross, and a director has not yet been named. [The Hollywood Reporter]
  • Jai Courtney is slated to star in upcoming romantic WWII drama The Kaiser’s Last Kiss opposite Lily James. Courtney and James will play a German officer and an agent in the Dutch resistance, respectively, who enter into a doomed affair amid political turmoil. Christopher Plummer will star as Kaiser Wilhelm. Simon Burke adapted the script from Alan Judd’s novel of the same name, and David Leveaux is attached to direct. [Variety]
  • Dark indie comedy Youth in Oregon has added Transformers: Age of Extinction star Nicola Peltz to its cast. Billy Crudup and Frank Langella star as a man and his father-in-law going on a cross-country road trip. Christina Applegate also stars as Crudup’s wife; Peltz will play their daughter.   • National Geographic’s upcoming four-hour epic Saints and Strangers has found some of its saints in Vincent Kartheiser, Anna Camp, and Ron Livingston. The scripted series—Nat Geo’s first—follows the journey of the Mayflower in 1620. Eric Overmyer and Seth Fisher penned the script from which Paul Edwards will direct.   • Following the news that he has joined the Ghostbusters cast, Michael K Williams has signed on to another high-profile project: video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed, starring Macbeth costars Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender.
