Though some critics and viewers found this season lackluster, and NBC may not have shed tears when clashes with Sorkin preceded his resignation last spring, he got the last laugh. Flanked by the massive ''West Wing'' family, he said, ''For four years, you guys did the TV series of any playwright's dreams.'' And in each of those years, the show won the Emmy.
