At Last...The Duets Album (2004)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Release Date: Nov 23, 2004; Lead Performance: Kenny G; Genre: Jazz

Since Kenny G bashers have long accused him of making snoozy background music, it seems a workable solution to put his supple sax work behind some undeniably assertive singers — from LeAnn Rimes to Barbra Streisand. And in a few cases on At Last...The Duets Album, it clicks. Gladys Knight makes the standard ''Misty'' a marvel of knowing romance, and Chaka Khan turns Christina Aguilera's ''Beautiful'' into a dazzling declaration. But, not surprisingly, many other duets slide into Mr. G's usual smooth-jazz rut.
