BAND WAGON Following Dave Navarro and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis, Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee is the third L.A. rocker to release an autobiography this month. Only Tommyland is the first to use the literary device of the author co- writing with his penis. This, however, is not without precedent, as most of Winston Churchill's memoirs were punched up by his left nipple.

SYNCH OR SWIM Ashlee Simpson walks off stage 35 seconds into her Saturday Night Live performance when the wrong vocal recording starts, exposing her as a lip-syncher. Her manager dad later explains that the track was played only because Ashlee was hoarse from acid reflux. Viewers over 30 are the first to forgive her, saying ''Hey, we're just grateful that we only had to hear 35 seconds.''
