The Milking Amnesia Award goes to...

Jim Carrey

FOR Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

WHY? Though Carrey plays Joel, a man who regrets paying to erase memories of an ill-fated romance with Clementine (Kate Winslet), Globe voters showed no lack of memory about his performance. They remembered one of 2004's rare lead roles that wasn't modeled after a real person (among the 10 Best Actor nominees, Carrey and Sideways star Paul Giamatti are the only ones who played fictional characters). They remembered that Eternal Sunshine was an awards-worthy movie, even though it came out way back in March. And they remembered that Carrey can be a heartbreakingly good, subtle dramatic actor. They seem to have forgotten that Carrey is best known as a guy who makes goofy faces and talks out of his ass, but for that erased memory, Carrey is probably relieved.

(Golden Globe nomination: Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy)
