The Past Lives Award goes to...

Nicole Kidman

FOR Birth

WHY? It's fitting that Kidman was nominated for a film about reincarnation. Because it's Kidman's previous incarnations — her Globe-winning roles in such films as To Die For, Moulin Rouge, and The Hours — that seemed to earn her the nod this time. After all, it's unlikely that her work in Birth, a film that garnered mixed-to-poor reviews and has received no other awards-season recognition from anyone, was nominated on its own merits. It just wouldn't be a Golden Globes roster without a nod to Kidman, who's now been nominated seven times, five of them in the past four years. No doubt she'll be cited again next year; that's her karma.
