An update of Jane Austen's classic courtship tale, Gurinder Chadha's Bride & Prejudice dresses up its heroine, Lalita (Aishwarya Rai), in vivid silk saris and formfitting salwar kameez (Indian pajamas) that catch the eye of her Mr. Darcy (Martin Henderson) luxury that's apparently very easy to come by. In India, ''everything is done overnight!'' says costume designer Eduardo Castro (Kama Sutra), who used more than 12,000 yards of material for the film. ''You can have an outfit designed and drawn up, and by the next day, you'll have it all embroidered. [In America], you have to wait weeks and months to have the same piece done.''
