Paul McCartney's halftime show at the Super Bowl this weekend may also be a brief dress rehearsal. Billboard reports that McCartney will use the occasion to detail his plans for a U.S. tour this fall. According to Billboard, the former Beatles bassist would play 38 North American cities, starting Sept. 16 in Miami and finishing in November. Tickets would likely go on sale the last week in February for the tour, which would support McCartney's forthcoming studio album, his first in four years, on which the 62-year-old collaborates with hip rock producer Nigel Godrich (known for his work with Radiohead and Beck). It would be McCartney's first set of U.S. dates since 2002, when his worldwide tour grossed $126 million. On the road, McCartney could cross paths with U2 (on the second North American leg of their ''Vertigo'' tour) and the Rolling Stones, who are expected to tour behind a new album this fall. Any of those three could be the top-grossing tour of the year. Let the race for classic-rock fans' dollars begin.
