Muslims and Orthodox Jews are among the diverse families Arthur's pal has visited on PBS' Postcards From Buster. But one with two mommies? That's one mommy too many. On Jan. 25, PBS caved to protests from member stations and the secretary of education, pulling an episode that takes place in gay-friendly Vermont. ''The family structure was obscuring...the real educational intent,'' says John Wilson, senior VP of programming. The ep will air March 23 in Boston and be offered directly to other PBS stations.
Irving ''Gotti'' Lorenzo, 34, president of hip-hop record label the Inc., was charged Jan. 26 with laundering more than $1 million from a drug operation. He was released the same day on $1 million bail after pleading not guilty in a NYC federal courthouse. Lorenzo's lawyer says, ''He will be vindicated.'' Lorenzo is due in court March 18.... Ryan Binkley, 22, was charged with aggravated burglary and theft after allegedly robbing the Springville, Tenn., home of country star Hank Williams Jr., 55. Williams' manager said the intruder was lucky he didn't get shot by Hank Jr., who has a large collection of guns. Binkley could not be reached for comment.... Grammy winner Lynn Anderson (''Rose Garden''), 57, was arrested Jan. 24 in Taos, N.M., for allegedly hitting the police officer who apprehended her for stealing a Harry Potter DVD. Anderson has pleaded not guilty. Her lawyer says, ''She deserves the respect of our community and industry.''... Rappers Master P (né Percy Miller), 37, and his brother Silkk the Shocker (né Vyshonn Miller), 29, were arrested Jan. 27 on suspicion of weapons possession after two handguns were allegedly found in their car. No charges have been filed. Reps did not return calls for comment.
Canadian rockers Nickelback announced Jan. 26 that drummer Ryan Vikedal, 29, would leave the group. In a statement, the band wished him luck from Vancouver, where they are in the studio.
On Jan. 26, The Sea Inside's Javier Bardem, 35, was sued by Jill Marshall, who accused him of getting drunk and fracturing her nose while dancing with her in a NYC club Dec. 10. She is seeking unspecified damages. Reps for Bardem say, ''If she was hurt while dancing, it's her own fault.''... New York Yankee god Yogi Berra, 79, filed suit against TBS on Jan. 27, claiming the cable net inappropriately used his name in ads for syndicated broadcasts of Sex and the City (the ads offer ''sex with Yogi Berra'' as one definition of Yogasm; correct answer: ''What Samantha has with a guy from yoga class''). The suit states that Berra is a ''deeply religious man,'' and seeks $5 million and a halt to the use of his name.... Evolution Entertainment filed suit Jan. 26 in L.A. against Kevin Connolly (Entourage), 30, claiming that the actor hired Evolution as his personal management company, then failed to pay for services provided. The company seeks up to $250,000.... Emmy award-winning makeup artist Kylie Bell (Six Feet Under) filed suit against rapper Snoop Dogg (né Calvin Broadus, left), 33, ABC, Disney, and Jimmy Kimmel Live Jan. 28 in L.A. Bell claims that Snoop and members of his crew raped her after the rapper appeared on the ABC show in January 2003. Snoop had filed a suit Dec. 10 claiming that Bell, then unnamed, was attempting to extort $5 million from him. She is now seeking $25 million in damages. ABC reps say, ''There is simply no merit to the charges.''
