Chloë Sevigny, Radha Mitchell, ... | CHIWETEL EJIOFOR, MITCHELL, AND CHLOE SEVIGNY
CHIWETEL EJIOFOR, MITCHELL, AND CHLOE SEVIGNY

Details Release Date: Mar 18, 2005; Limited Release: Mar 18, 2005; Rated: PG-13; Length: 99 Minutes; Genres: Comedy, Drama; With: Will Ferrell; Distributor: Fox Searchlight Pictures

British author Horace Walpole once wrote that life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel. By that measure, writer/director Woody Allen did a lot of thinking and feeling for this bifurcated picture, wherein two playwrights share dinner and spin dueling riffs on the same anecdotal situation: A woman shows up unannounced at a dinner party. As the authors argue life's true nature, two stories unfold — one played for broad laughs à la Annie Hall, one for stringent pathos à la Interiors. Will Ferrell appears in the comic tale, playing a neurotic, unemployed (and married) actor who falls in love with the visitor. Radha Mitchell, who appeared as the social-climbing wife in Finding Neverland, anchors both stories — and landed the job without having met Allen. ''I got this strange call out of the blue from somebody who sounded very slick and smooth,'' says Mitchell. ''You're so used to the Woody Allen persona being so inept, in need of being taken care of. His phone voice was supercool. Obviously, he has different sides.''
