Guess Who

RELEASE DATE March 25

WHY WE CAN'T WAIT What better way to examine America's stubbornly persistent racial divide than to play it for slapstick yuks?

THE PREMISE Imagine Guess Who's Coming to Dinner updated for the Meet the Parents era, with Bernie Mac as the disapproving future father-in-law and Ashton Kutcher as the eager-to-please future son-in-law. Rounding out the cast are Zoe Saldana (at right) as Daddy's little girl, and Judith Scott (at left) in the Katharine Hepburn role.

SOURCE The 1967 drama, with Spencer Tracy as the discouraging dad and Sidney Poitier as the flawless fiancé

THE BACK STORY Great minds think alike: Both Kutcher and Mac were developing their own race-reversed remakes of Dinner. When they got wind of each other's projects they agreed to combine forces. And voilà! Life-imitates-art racial harmony.

BURNING QUESTION Would you want your daughter to marry Ashton Kutcher?

COME FOR The Kutcher-Mac chemistry

STAY FOR The Kutcher-Saldana chemistry; after all, says director Kevin Rodney Sullivan, ''race [is] just the hook of the song. The body and soul of the movie has to be about love.''
