ERIN GO BOOK Just in time for the Oscars, William Morris' Mel Berger is shopping the life story of the real Erin Brockovich. Titled ''I'm Erin Brockovich: My Autobiography and Spiritual Policies,'' the book would be written with biographer Marc Eliot, and would include ''dramatic details of Brockovich's remarkable life story,'' and ''all that has happened...since the 1995 settlement'' (where the movie leaves off). Can a sequel be far behind?

MADAME BUTTERFLY Speaking of inspirational bios, 23 year old Laila Ali, the women's boxing star and youngest daughter of boxing great Muhammad Ali, is looking to write ''Reach! Positive Motivational Power in My Life -- and Yours,'' which would tell the story of her rise from troubled teen to undefeated pugilist (8 - 0, with seven knockouts). ''She's a woman who found boxing relatively late in her life,'' says her agent, Trident Media Group's Dan Strone. Using ''boxing as a metaphor,'' he adds, ''she wants to show women how they can achieve their goals.'' And kick some serious butt.

SPY VS. SPY FBI agent -- and alleged mole -- Robert Philip Hanssen may have betrayed his country and cost the lives of U.S. operatives, but he's been nothing but good news for the book industry. Three titles have already been signed up, and two more are making the rounds. ''I have been approached, and I am considering tackling this because it is the most compelling story I've come across in 18 years,'' says The Washington Post's David A. Vise of rumors he is shopping a book.

Meanwhile, agent Flip Brophy is offering a proposal for ''Spy Chasers'' by Brian Duffy, who has covered the Hanssen case for U.S. News & World Report. Already in the works: Adrian Havill's ''The Spy Who Stayed Out in the Cold,'' an instant hardcover from St. Martin's; Little, Brown's look at the case from Time's Elaine Shannon and Ann Blackman; and an investigation by veteran spy watcher David Wise from Random House.
