Batman Begins

Not only will the Batman Begins game, co-published by Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, mimic the plot of the film, it will be released the same day (June 17) and feature Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, and other actors re-creating their characters. ''When you're doing a [same] date game release with a film,'' says Jason Hall, senior VP at WBIE, ''people like to see continuity between the film and that game.'' But he says that's not the only reason Warner Bros. is hedging its bats, er, bets with big names: ''It's a much bigger deal if you have Christian Bale. It increases our visibility.''

King Kong

Sure, he's among the highest-paid filmmakers in the world, but Peter Jackson sounds like he wants to trade his director's chair for a joystick. ''When I think of the future potential of entertainment, it's games that excite me, not movies,'' the Lord of the Rings director tells EW via e-mail. ''Whereas the structure of telling stories through movies has become formulaic, we are only just beginning to touch on the potential of games.'' Currently at work on his King Kong remake, starring Naomi Watts and Jack Black, Jackson has been collaborating on a console version of the ape classic, which will have voice-overs by some of the movie actors, additional dialogue by King Kong co-writer Philippa Boyens, and, according to Jackson, ''the same basic mood and design of the film.'' (Game publisher Ubisoft says it will be timed to the movie's Dec. 14 release.) As for making the jump from screening room to game room, Jackson doesn't find it hard: ''It's not that much different from creating a movie, so it's almost like working on an expanded, more flexible version of the King Kong story.''
