We're dying to see ''Sin City''
RELEASE DATE April 1
WHY WE CAN'T WAIT Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids) promises that his version of graphic-novel auteur Frank Miller's bloody yarns will be the most faithful comic-book adaptation ever. Plus, he's assembled a cool all-star cast that includes Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro, Rosario Dawson, Alexis Bledel, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba (pictured, left with Willis), Nick Stahl, and Mickey Rourke.
THE PREMISE It's a triptych of noirish underworld tales, with cops, crooks, hookers, hoods, and one yellow-faced monster.
SOURCE Three of the graphic novels in Miller's Sin City series
THE BACK STORY To replicate the look of Miller's pages stark black-and-white with occasional spatterings of color Rodriguez shot most of the actors' scenes in front of green screens, Sky Captain style, and digitally added the sets later. He says he hopes the movie will be like The Matrix, ''one of those visual turning points, where people would see movies in a different way.''
BURNING QUESTION Might audiences find the startling visuals, not to mention the bleak stories and intense violence, too off-putting?
COME FOR Ripe-for-a-comeback Rourke, as a vengeful antihero
STAY FOR A lengthy in-car conversation between Owen and Del Toro, a segment shot by the master of front-seat chatter, Quentin ''Royale With Cheese'' Tarantino
