Having long proven his box office mettle as an action hero, and having done the same this month as a romantic lead in Hitch, Will Smith will try both at the same time. According to Variety, Columbia is developing Tonight, He Comes as a vehicle for Smith. He'd play a fallen, depressed superhero living in Brooklyn who drinks, smokes, and has one-night stands, until he falls in love with a married woman, a local housewife. The screenplay, written by Vincent Ngo six years ago, has long been at the top of many a mogul's pile of best unproduced scripts; apparently, the dark, adult tone has made greenlighting difficult. Now, however, the project has a top star, a top producer (Collateral's Michael Mann), and a top director (Terminator 3's Jonathan Mostow). Look for Tonight to come to theaters around Christmas 2006.
