Without A Net (2005)

At 24, Kennedy left her unemployed husband and took off with their three small children to a coastal Maine town where she planned to make a better life. (They'd been living in an uninsulated cabin with no running water or refrigerator.) Instead, she ended up cooking ramen on a campfire and putting the kids to sleep every night in the back of her Subaru wagon while she finished her low-paying waitressing shift at a local pub. Kennedy's vivid account of her months of homelessness makes a lively read, though you never really doubt that this resourceful and articulate young woman will find her way out of poverty in the end.
