The forensic sleuths on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation may be experts on scientific minutiae, but what to they have to say about European fast-food restaurants or the origins of Superman? Viewers may find out during the season finale, which will be directed by Quentin Tarantino, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The show's producers have reportedly been after him for some time to direct an episode, and a chance meeting with the Kill Bill filmmaker in Las Vegas finally led to his agreeing to shoot the May 19 installment, for which he also came up with the premise.
Tarantino and series creator Anthony Zuiker are apparently mutual fans. The Pulp Fiction director ''knows everything there is to know about CSI, and he is into the whole mythology of CSI,'' executive producer Carol Mendelsohn told the Reporter. ''Quentin came in a couple of weeks ago. We had a story meeting with the writers. He had a great idea, and it was so much fun to have him in the room.... We are positively giddy.'' Giddy isn't a word usually associated with the serious Gil Grissom (William Petersen) or his team, one of whose members will be placed in jeopardy during the episode. Promised Mendelsohn: ''There will be more bugs and blood this time.''
