Jerry Lewis Live on the Champs Élysées. Battle of the PBS Stars. Sketch comedy doesn't get any better than SCTV, and Martin Short joins the cast in Volume 3
Would SCTV survive today?
SCTV said, ''This is a smart show. We encourage all smart people to
watch, and if dumb people don't get it, then I guess they shouldn't.''
That doesn't happen much today.
Ever write a piece that even the cast didn't get?
One. They were making the Lone Ranger movie, and Clayton Moore, who'd
played the Lone Ranger on TV, wasn't allowed to wear the mask to mall
appearances. Our premise was they were now making Gilligan's Island: The
Movie starring Robin Williams, and Bob Denver had to show up with a veil
covering his little Gilligan hat. It didn't get on.
Who's the last impression you did?
David Lynch. Again, courting the masses.
