Hiring Quentin Tarantino to direct a Friday the 13th movie sounds like using a sledgehammer to press a thumbtack. Still, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the Kill Bill filmmaker is in talks with New Line to shoot the 12th installment of the slasher series. He'd also write the film and possibly star in it as well. The movie would mark the first time Tarantino has deployed his vast working knowledge of sharp blades and spurting blood for a studio other than Miramax.
The project, tentatively titled The Ultimate Jason Voorhees Movie, would be in the vein of 2003's successful Freddy vs. Jason, matching the hockey-masked Friday killer with characters from other films. (The film supersedes the proposed Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, which would have pitted Jason and razor-taloned Freddy Krueger against Ash, the chainsaw-wielding, demon-fighting hero played by Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead trilogy, a project that failed to come together when producers couldn't secure the character rights from Evil Dead creator-turned-Spider-Man director Sam Raimi.) Tarantino would play one of the other villains in the film. Of course, those who think Tarantino is a better writer and director than he is an actor might wish him to star as the silent, faceless Jason.
