Mirroring the lyrics of her 1989 hit ''Straight Up,'' Paula Abdul was caught in an alleged hit and run. The American Idol judge was charged by the Los Angeles city attorney for an incident last December in which her Mercedes-Benz brushed with another car on a California freeway, but didn't pull over to trade information, according to Celebrity Justice.

While no one was injured during the event, the driver and passenger of the vehicle allegedly struck by Abdul's car snapped her license-plate number with a camera-phone, and called the California Highway Patrol the next day.

The 40-year-old former pop star told CHP investigators that she remembered hitting a pothole on Dec. 20 (the day of the alleged accident), and that later the same day, her car was towed from the freeway after it unexpectedly broke down, Celebrity Justice also reports.

A hit and run, although a misdemeanor charge, has a maximum sentence of a $1,000 fine and six months in jail.
