Original 'Sin'

In your March 11 issue, you ran a letter from Suzanne Reisman regarding her disappointment in the characterization of women in Frank Miller's Sin City and comic books in general. By attacking this ''stereotype,'' which is widely untrue, she unknowingly perpetuated an actual stereotype about comic books portraying women in a negative light. The women in Sin City are prostitutes and strippers for the same reason that the men are thugs and killers: It is about the seedy underbelly of society. If Ms. Reisman actually read comics, she would see that there are countless examples of strong women in some of the most popular and critically acclaimed titles being produced. Even the women in Sin City emerge as some of the strongest characters. It's taken time for the comic book industry to truly gain popular acceptance and be regarded as a serious form of entertainment, so it is essential that these types of misconceptions about it be dismissed.

New Kids on the Block

Thank you for the kids review section in the March 11 issue. As a mother of four, I am always looking for something new and different to entertain and stimulate their minds. I hope that this wasn't just a one-off.
