Run the Road (2005)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Mar 08, 2005; Lead Performance: Various Artists; Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Not just the crud lining your tub, grime is England's latest twist on hip-hop, featuring beats more chaotic than a rugby scrum and accents thicker than kidney pie. Run the Road, the first major grime compilation available in the U.S., highlights the genre's pleasures — dystopian beats that are rugged and restless, plus fiercely virtuosic rappers (Kano, Dizzee Rascal, and Lady Sovereign are tops) who rhyme with such urgency, you can feel the spittle.
