As predicted, one of this weekend's new movies broke $20 million while the other scored in the mid-teens. It's just that many box office predictors (including EW.com) got them wrong.

The Ashton Kutcher-Bernie Mac comedy Guess Who surprised observers by placing first with a strong $21 million, according to studio estimates. That's the biggest debut for a film featuring Kutcher in a lead role; until now his personal best was Just Married's $17.5 million take.

Coming in second was the expected No. 1 film, Sandra Bullock's sequel Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, which grossed $14.5 million over the Friday-to-Sunday period. Though that's right in line with Bullock's last release, Two Weeks Notice, which opened with $14.3 million, Congeniality was thought to have done better given audiences' familiarity with the first film. At least it did better than the first Miss Congeniality, which premiered with $10 million in 2000.

The rest of the top five wasn't at all surprising. The Ring Two plummeted 61 percent to $13.8 million, bringing its 10-day total to $58.1 million, while Robots saw a 38 percent drop to $13 million, putting its total at $87.4 million. And Vin Diesel's The Pacifier continued its strong run, slipping only 31 percent to $8.5 million. The family comedy so far has grossed — get this — $86.3 million, more than his last two action flicks combined. Should we expect more of the warm and fuzzy Diesel in the near future?
