Set shortly after the gold rush, director Michael Winterbottom's drama examines the secrets and lies of a Western mining town. Peter Mullan (''My Name Is Joe'') plays a successful businessman whose livelihood and family -- including daughter Sarah Polley -- are forever changed by the arrival of a young land surveyor (Wes Bentley). A youthful cast (and even some explosions) is a plus, but this snowy saga may prove too pensive to lure anyone but the art house crowd.
