Pool Players

Shyamalan's next stars: Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard -- The ''Village'' star would play a water nymph found in an apartment building swimming pool in ''Lady in the Water''

M. Night Shyamalan has narrowed the casting pool for his latest chiller, Lady in the Water. According to Variety, the filmmaker wants to cast Bryce Dallas Howard — who gave a star-making performance in Shyamalan's The Village — in the role of a water nymph, and he wants Sideways star Paul Giamatti to play the apartment superintendent who discovers her splashing around in his building's swimming pool.

Bryce Dallas Howard has been busy since The Village put her on the map, starring in Lars von Trier's Manderlay (taking over Nicole Kidman's Dogville role) and has signed to star in Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of As You Like It. Giamatti will next be seen opposite Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man, directed by Dallas Howard's famous father, Ron Howard.

The casting news comes less than a week after Warner Bros. picked up the project, after Disney (the studio behind Shyamalan's last four films, including Signs and The Sixth Sense) had passed on it. Filming begins in August for a July 2006 release.
