Red Eye
(Aug. 19)PREMISE Two attractive strangers, Lisa (The Notebook's Rachel McAdams) and Jackson (28 Days Later's Cillian Murphy), meet in an airport as they await a delayed takeoff, and soon they're seated together on a flight to Miami. Then things take a horrific turn, just as director Wes Craven's (Scream) name appears on a title card.
SLOGAN ''Tonight, Flight 1019 will arrive on time. But one passenger may not.''
TRAILER HIGHLIGHTS McAdams and Murphy flirt cute in an airport bar (top). On board the plane (middle), he asks if she's stalking him. But then, the screen darkens, leaving only one red eye (Murphy's) exposed. ''Lisa, sometimes bad things happen to good people,'' he says ominously. The final frame: a classic horror-movie shot of a forearm pressed up against the plane's window, with another hand grabbing it by the wrist (bottom).
PERCENTAGE OF PLOT SPOILED 30 percent. Is the movie about a hijacking? A ghost? An alien abduction? Can't really tell by this clip.
VERDICT A minor masterpiece of misdirection. What looks like a romantic comedy suddenly shifts into something eerie. What the hell is happening on that plane? Aren't you dying to know? Trailer grade: A-
