Bewitched
(June 24)PREMISE Not just another movie version of an old TV show, but a meta-joke on such projects. Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell, bottom), a once-prominent actor playing Darrin in an update of the 1960s sitcom, casts as his Samantha an unknown actress (Nicole Kidman, top) who (surprise!) turns out to be a real witch. Life, art, and parody get hopelessly tangled, à la Adaptation.
SLOGAN ''Be Warned. Be Ready. Bewitched!''
TRAILER HIGHLIGHTS Yep, Nicole Kidman can twitch her nose like Elizabeth Montgomery. Shirley MacLaine (middle) pops up for an instant as a perfectly cast Endora. Ferrell goes apoplectic when he realizes that Kidman is an actual broom-riding sorceress, and even more so when he realizes that he's just as easily replaced as the original TV Darrin.
PERCENTAGE OF PLOT SPOILED 75 percent
VERDICT Comedy trailers often contain all the movie's best jokes, so it's worrisome that this chaotically edited clip doesn't have more yuks. Kidman isn't the most surefooted comedian anyway, as the three people who saw last year's Stepford Wives know. Fortunately, the trailer focuses more on Ferrell, who's always shameless in pursuit of laughs; let's hope the film leans on him heavily as well. Trailer grade: C-
