Instead of continuing the smooth neo-soul of her debut, 2002's All I Have, Amerie's sophomore album pulses with funky percussion, pumping sexy energy into familiar musical formulas. Standouts include the hit single ''1 Thing,'' which sets her vocals fluttering against a punishing frenzy of go-go beats. This young singer may not have the gospel pitch of artists like Beyoncé and Alicia Keys, but when it comes to revitalizing R&B, this much is certain: She's definitely got the right Touch.
